Our Story

For us, Pax actually began several years ago around a table at a local coffee shop. As freelancers, we found ourselves lonely, both for professional input and personal camaraderie. It was born out of the acknowledgment that, while we each had our own work in varying industries, we are better together

Carolyn is at a community table in a local coffee shop and has a technology crisis. Enter: Justin; he lends Carolyn a keyboard and saves the day. As freelancing creatives, we bump into each other frequently at spots downtown.

Coworking Mondays” is born. We invite freelancers/remote workers/complete strangers to come work together in a regular rhythm. Despite the fact that our local coffee shop plays Tainted Love endlessly on repeat at 7am. Misery loves company.

Derek joins, despite not being a remote worker and refusing to play a B♭ scale on the trumpet. But, the community is amazing and we welcome everyone. The group now overflows in said coffee shop.

We begin to dream…What if we had an actual space for this? We tour commercial real estate in a blizzard. We learn Justin is a winter-wimp.

Some of our coworking friends make questionable choices with their celebrity crushes. They are forgiven and allowed to continue coworking. Justin curates playlists for our moods. He is our music sherpa. Tainted Love still plays.

We’ve been working out of the trunks of our cars at the Civic Center, in basements, hot-spotting at parks. We miss community. We miss our people. We don’t remember what chins look like. You were there, you know.

Recognizing that even more people are feeling the isolation and loneliness of working at home, we restart the dream machine. Carolyn bumps into Russell and then there were four.

After many snacks and beers at our favorite spot, The Brew Merchant, Pax Coworking Studio is born. Russell introduces everyone to his amazing electric scooter, cementing his fate as being forever cool.

You join Pax…and it gets even better!

We launch Pax in November 2021 and you make it incredible! We’re working behind the scenes to get our Private Offices and Conference Room ready for an early 2022 open date.

The wall came down, our Offices and Conference Room becomes available, and there is no looking back! Pax is happy to be at the ground level of conversations about the future of work in Holland and the greater West Michigan region.
